10 Worst Watford FC Singings Ever
3) Iriney
Iriney, a 33-year-old midfielder, was signed to replace the departing Nathaniel Chalobah. However, Watford fans quickly realised he was nowhere near the club’s level.
He played just 17 games for Watford in his one season with the club. His lack of pace got badly exposed in the Championship. He was sent to Mallorca in a loan move which wasn’t much of a success either. The Brazilian ultimately decided to hang his boots in 2014.
2) Gabriel Tamas
Free transfers are usually thought of as low-risk and potentially high reward moves in football. But not in the case of Gabriel Tamas.
The centre-back was signed in the winter of 2014 on a free transfer. The former West Bromwich Albion defender played seven games for the club. That included him giving away a first-minute penalty, an own goal, and a red card.
An Absolute Calamity. One of the worst Watford FC signings ever.
1) Nathan Ellington
If you went around asking Watford fans who they thought was their worst ever signing, the name “Nathan Ellington” would be pretty recurring.
After getting relegated from the English top-flight in 2007, the club broke their transfer record to sign Ellington in a £3.5m deal.
However, 4 years and 5 goals later it is fair to assume it was a fairly disastrous signing.
