3) Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon came through the ranks at Parma and made his professional debut in 1995. After spending 6 years at his boyhood club he moved to Juventus in 2001 for a then-record fee for a goalkeeper.

Gigi spent 20 years at Juventus, winning 10 league titles. He also won Ligue 1 with PSG in his only season at the club.

Buffon was a part of the Italian side that won the World Cup in 2006. He holds the record for the most caps won for the Azzurri.

Gigi is still going strong having completed a move back at Parma earlier this transfer window.

2) Manuel Neuer

Manuel Neuer has inspired an entire generation of goalkeepers with his ability to play with his feet to help his team in possession. With a passing range that a midfielder would be envious of and his shot-stopping prowess Manuel Neuer unquestionably is the best goalkeeper of his generation.

Manuel came through the famous academy of Schalke 04. After spending 6 years in Gelsenkirchen he moved to Bayern Munich in 2011.

In his 10 years at the club, he has won everything there is to win in club football. Two Champions League, nine league titles among other trophies.

One of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Neuer, won the 2014 World Cup with Germany and was also named the Golden Glove winner for the tournament. Icon.

1) Lev Yashin

To this day, Lev Yashin is the only goalkeeper to win the Ballon d’Or. Lev Yashin is most certainly the greatest goalkeeper in the history of the game.

Lev Yashin spent his entire club career with Dynamo Moscow, winning a bundle of trophies while doing so. His performances for the Soviet Union though was what got him International Recognition.

He won the Olympic Gold Medal at Melbourne in 1956 and the European Championships four years later in 1960.

Lev saved 150 penalties in his professional career, which is a record. He also kept clean sheets in more than 60% of the games he played in which is a testament to his ability.
