10. Leeds United [1968-1975]

Don Revie’s Leeds were one of the most fierce teams in the history of English football. After winning the League Cup in 1968, Leeds went on to win two League titles, two Fairs Cups and the FA Cup in 1972. Johnny Giles, Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter, and Jack Charlton earned the team its ‘mean machine’ tag, while Peter Lorimer’s spectacular shooting, Eddie Gray’s skilful wing play and Allan ‘Sniffer’ Clarke’s goalscoring exploits gave the Whites their cutting edge upfront.

Pep Guardiola took the Premier League by storm after taking Manchester City’s managerial role. City became the first English team to accumulate 100 points in a season after achieving this feat in 2017-18. In this time period, City has won 3 league titles, a FA Cup and four league cups.

Manchester United won a hat-trick of Premier League in this timeframe. The Red Devils, led by an unprecedented offensive force featuring Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney also won the Champions League in the 2007-08 season. They also won the FIFA Club World Cup 2008.

7. Preston North End [1888-1890]

Preston North End squad were one of the most dominant teams in history. Unbeaten in the inaugural First Division with 18 wins in 22 matches, their win ratio would have given them 100 points in the Premier League era. They even completed the Double without conceding a goal in five FA Cup matches, then also retained the title the following season.

In 1968, ten years after the unfortunate Munich air disaster wiped out the Busby Babes, Matt Busby’s Manchester United triumphed 4-1 at Wembley against Benfica in the 1968 European Cup Final. It was one of the most emotive nights in the history of football. After winning the league title in 1964/65 and then again in 1966/67, Busby’s great United side finally grabbed the biggest prize of all.
