One club man Paul Madeley made 724 appearances for Leeds United, in a career spanning a remarkable 19 years. Leeds fans who watched Paul Madeley’s long and distinguished career at Elland Road were always stumped as to which was his best position on the park, such was his uniqueness as a utility player.

After all, he played as a striker, a winger, a central defender and in both full-back positions in the many domestic and European finals his club reached between 1965 and 1975.

He won the second division title, two first division league titles, a FA Cup and a League Cup during his time with the club.

1. Jack Charlton [1952-1973] [762 apps]

As one club players go there are not many more loved than Jack Charlton. He spent his entire career with Leeds, spending more than 20 years. Jack made 762 appearances in total for Leeds from 1952 to 1973.

Jack was certainly one of the most talented defenders of his generation, if not of all-time. He was an integral part of the Leeds side that climbed the mountain from the Second Division and remained at the summit for several years.

His height was used to great advantage at Leeds corner kicks and his surprisingly agile defensive ability kept out even the greatest strikers of his day. In 2006, Leeds United supporters voted Charlton into the club’s greatest ever XI.
