Whether Tottenham Hotspur are one of the biggest clubs in London or not, they have always been the club that has attracted the most envy and hatred from their rivals. It has been obvious to most Spurs fans that Arsenal, West Ham, and Chelsea all consider Spurs to be their main rivals.

In a survey, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham all picked Tottenham as the club they hated the most while Leicester City and Southampton supporters also didn’t show much love for the Lilywhites. This makes Tottenham one of the most hated football clubs in the United Kingdom.

One of the reasons why they are hated so much is that the rival fans believe that they have an air of arrogance about them with nothing to show for it. West Ham have strong rivalries with several other clubs. Most of these are with other London clubs, especially with Tottenham Hotspur in an East versus North London derby and with Chelsea in an East versus West London rivalry. The oldest and fiercest rivalry is with Millwall. The two sides are local rivals, having both formed originally around local companies, with players living in the same localities.

8) Liverpool

Nobody wanted Liverpool to win the league title last year and nobody was happy when they did. They won the title after 30 years and in those 30 years, they were hardly the favorites. But in the ’70s and the ’80s, they were a force to reckon with. Their problem is that their fans are always fixated with the past and they also always keep saying that “Next year will be ours”. When Steven Gerrard’s slip resulted in losing the title in 2014, as opposed to feeling frustrated about the Reds, the response from most rival fans was to ignore their heads off.

7) MK Dons

The main reason for the hate against MK Dons is how they moved 70 miles away from their most loyal fans. A football club is not the players. It isn’t a limited company. It isn’t the board or the league position. All of these are temporary. The one constant in football is the fans and if a club decides to take a club away from their fans it will get hate. Even though after being relegated and giving trophies back to the original Wimbledon the club won some neutrals but they are still very despised.

6) Celtic

Another club who are a victim of their own success. Celtic is probably the most successful team in Scotland in recent times and are despised all around Scotland due to that. The hate for Celtic comes mostly from the Rangers fan. Their rivalry with Rangers is one of the most fierce rivalries in the world. Sectarianism in Glasgow is also the reason for hate for both of the old firm clubs.

They are also seemed to be hated for their refusal to wear the poppy. In a match against Aberdeen the Green Brigade ultras group held up banners which read ‘Your deeds would shame all the devils in hell. Ireland Iraq Afghanistan. No bloodstained poppy on our hoops. This was met with complete outrage at the time all over Britain. Celtic are, thus, one of the most hated football clubs in the United Kingdom.
