13. David Ginola
The French forward joined Newcastle United in 1995 for a fee of £2.5 million. He was part of the potential title-winning Newcastle team of 1995–96 when they finished second just behind Manchester United. This was by far their best league performance in decades, and Ginola was an essential member of that team. He was an entertaining player and although he did not play at St. James’ Park for very long, he did leave his mark on the club.
12. Riyad Mahrez
Mahrez was an exceptional player for Leicester City. He had some great skills up his sleeves. His 27 goal involvements in 2015-16 played an integral part in winning that year’s Premier League title which resulted in him winning the PFA player of the year award. Mahrez joined Leicester from a French club Le Havre for £400,000 and was sold to Manchester City for a fee of £60m. Quite a bargain huh?
11. Jurgen Klinsmann
In 1994, Klinsmann moved from Monaco to Tottenham for a price of 2 million Pounds. He was not a very loved figure when arrived in England but he turned the tables very soon with his attitude. The German scored 21 league goals and 30 in all competitions, was named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year. He promptly left for Bayern Munich having become a cult hero.
10. Sami Hyypia
Sami Hyypia was sold by Eredivisie club Willem II to Liverpool in 1999 for £2.6m. Liverpool were struggling a bit in the defensive area so they needed a good strong defender, and that’s what they got in the form of Hyppia. The big defender soon helped the club transform its fortune. The Finnish center-back spent a whole 10 years at the heart of Liverpool’s defense. He also served as Liverpool captain for a year in 2002-03.
9. N’Golo Kante
Everyone loves Kante and who wouldn’t want to have the Frenchman in their team. Kante was sold by French club Caen to Leicester City for £5.6m. Then he made history with Leicester City after just one season with the club by winning the first-ever English Premier League title for Leicester. In that one season, Kante only missed one game and also made it to the PFA Team of the Year. Leicester also earned a handsome profit when he joined Chelsea for £32m.
8. Vincent Kompany
The Belgian signed for Manchester City from Hamburg in 2008 for £6m. Kompany served the team for 11 years. The center-back was an excellent player with a great mindset. He was a great leader for the team. He scored some memorable goals too, including one against Manchester United in April 2012, a win in that game brought City level on points with United in the title chase. That ultimately resulted in Aguerooooooooooo moment. He also scored a banger against Leicester City that proved to be a winner in that match and also helped the team to win the 2018-19 Premier League title.
7. Edwin van der Sar
Van der Sar moved from Fulham to Manchester United for a fee of just £2m in 2005. Even before starting to guard the goalposts for United at Old Trafford, the Dutch was already a renowned goalkeeper having made his mark in the EPL. He then went on to do even greater things with the Red Devil winning 10 major honors which also included a UEFA Champions League title. He is, without a doubt, one of the best bargain signings in Premier League history.
