16. Norwich City [€-19.06m]

It’s surprising that Norwich have a negative net spend given the fact that they were in the Premier League for two of the last five seasons. Their most expensive arrivals in the said timeline were Christos Tzolis and Milot Rashica, both signed for €11.00m each in the 2021-22 season. The most expensive departure was Emiliano Buendia for €38.40m to Aston Villa in the 2021-22 season.

15. Sunderland AFC [€-17.09m]

Sunderland are a huge club with a great fan base. Currently, in the Championship mid-table, Sunderland last played in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season. Their fans would love to see them back in the top division and they still have some rebuilding to do before they can get there. In the last five years, their most expensive arrival was Will Grigg (€3.40m) in the 2018-19 season, while the most expensive departure was Wahbi Khazri (€7.00m) to Saint-Etienne in the 2018-19 season.

14. Luton Town [€-8.57m]

Luton Town’s most expensive signing in the last five years was Centre-Forward Carlton Morris, who signed in the 22-23 season. The most expensive departure in the same period was James Justin (€6.70m) to Leicester City in the 2019-20 season.

Coventry are laying in the mid-table of the Championship, quite safe from relegation places but far from playoff places. Coventry’s most expensive arrival in the last five years was Gustavo Hamer (€1.50m) in the 2020-21 season and the most expensive sale was Sam McCallum (€4.15m) in the 2019-20 season.

12. Rotherham United [€-4.55m]

Rotherham are wandering around the relegation places and will have to do well to avoid going down to the third-tier of English football. Their most expensive signing in the last five years was Freddie Ladapo (€560k) in the 2019-20 season, while the most valuable departure was Will Vaulks (€2.35m) to Cardiff in the 2019-20 season.

11. West Bromwich Albion [€-4.24m]

West Brom are a big club and their fans will hope to see them back in the Premier League soon. Their most expensive signing in the last five seasons was Karlan Grant (€16.50m) from Huddersfield Town in the 2020-21 season and the most expensive departure was Salomon Rondon (€18.27m) in the 2019-20 season.

10. Preston North End [€-3.25m]

Preston North End’s most expensive signing in the last five years was of central midfielder Tom Bayliss, who was signed from Coventry City for €2.20m in the 2019-20 season. Their most expensive player sale was Callum Robinson (€7.80m) to Sheffield United, also in the 2019-20 season.

9. Wigan Athletic [€-1.63m]

Wigan are at the dead bottom of the Championship table and will hope to recover from there. Josh Windass is their most expensive player signed in the last five years, he was signed from Rangers for €2.80m in the 2018-19 season. Their most expensive player departure in the same timeline was Dan Burn (€3.55m) in the 2018-19 season.
