5 Players Celtic Could Sign in Summer Of 2019

Another successful domestic campaign but Celtic are still going to have a bit of a rebuilding job to do. According to skipper Scott Brown, the club will be active in both selling and signing players over the coming month, despite Neil Lennon’s future hanging in the balance. As much as they have the guts of a solid team at their disposal, the Hoops have areas that they will need to strengthen. So let us have a look at some of the players Celtic could sign in summer.

Combining reports of various media houses, here are the 5 players Celtic could sign in summer of 2019.

5. Rekeem Harper

Celtic are looking to secure a deal for West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper, according to reports. The 19-year-old and his agent were believed to be at Celtic Park on Sunday to see the Hoops lift the Premiership title.

Harper generally plays in central midfield but can also play in a more advanced role behind a striker. Playing for the Baggies this campaign, the midfielder has scored one goal and provided one assist in 23 senior appearances, only becoming a fixture in the first team at the start of the new year.

The teenager is out of contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from EPL clubs, including Tottenham.

Celtic are interested in Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori, according to reports in England. The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Derby County and was named the club’s player of the year after helping them to the English Championship playoff final.

It is believed Tomori won’t be part of Maurizio Sarri’s first-team plans next season despite the Blues being under a transfer ban. Tomori would certainly be an interesting choice but Celtic will likely face stiff competition from English clubs for his signature.

3. Lys Mousset

Celtic are looking into the possibility of signing Bournemouth striker Lys Mousset this summer, according to the Scottish Daily Mail. The Frenchman is said to be keen on making the switch after seeing the progress of other players like Moussa Dembele who have moved to Parkhead.

The transfer fee will be a major obstacle to Mousset moving north of the border, though, with the Cherries said to be demanding £10m. He is hardly a prolific goalscorer, having bagged just five in 71 games since moving to the Vitality Stadium from Le Harve for £5.4m two years ago.

The Hoops will not break their transfer record to sign the 23-year-old, and negotiations are likely to involve at least one player moving in the other direction.

2. Stephen O’Donnell

The former Luton man has been a stand-out for the Rugby Park side and unlike other options being floated about, wouldn’t break the bank. The right-back position has needed attention for some time and Jeremy Toljan does not look like the answer.

The team will be needing not just a first-pick RB, but ideally a back-up too. O’Donnell has proved time and again this season that he could slot in.

1. Scott McKenna

Aberdeen have slapped a £10 million price tag on the 22-year-old and have already rejected bids from Celtic, Stoke City as well as Aston Villa, but going forward can a deal be done? with loanee Filip Benkoviic rejoining Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, Celtic are badly in need of a solid centre-back to accompany Kristoffer Ajer.

McKenna would fit the mold perfectly, being strong, fast and good in the air, as well as being able to distribute the ball up the park under pressure. He won’t exactly be cheap, but he’s less of a gamble than some other names might be.
