After a poor performance by the Blues against a spirited Liverpool side in the UEFA Championship League quarters, Pep Guardiola’s Blue and white army line-up to face second place and local rivals Manchester United next for the Premier League tie at the Etihad on Saturday, 7th of April at 5:30 pm BST.
It could very well prove to be a memorable title win for the league leaders who are just shy of three points from winning the league mathematically. City will be crowned the PL Champions if they manage to beat Jose Mourinho’s team which would take the lead to 19 points with six matches to go.
City won the away leg at the Old Trafford as the Blues thumped Jose’s men 1-2 following goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi while Marcus Rashford scored for United. The game took an ugly turn after a dressing-room spat between players of both sides promted the officials to look into the matter which proves how tense the scenes could get.
In no circumstances should the tie be taken lightly before the second leg against Liverpool as United are enjoying a good run in the league, winning all of thier last four matches, including splendid performances against Chelsea and Liverpool on the way. City’s last league defeat came against Liverpool at Anfield back in January but the recent performance against the same opposition may give United a morale advantage going into the match to widen the dent on Man City’s ongoing season.

Man City: – Guardiola has confirmed that long term absentee Sergio Aguero will undergo a fitness test to determine whether he’ll be able to make it to the match-day squad.
“I don’t know right now (whether he will play). We have training this afternoon and we are going to see his physical condition.”
“We have three massive games coming up – United, Liverpool and Spurs – we have to see the players condition. We have training later and we will see later. We will prepare the team to win the game.” said an optimistic City boss at the press conference before the all-important derby.
Pep however didn’t comment on Mendy’s return as the Frenchman nears his return after an ACL rupture back at the beginning of the season against Crystal Palace.
Man Utd: – The Reds boss has confirmed that he has a fully fit squad to choose from for the crunch tie except keeper Sergio Romero who was injured following an on-field clash with Diego Costa during Spain’s 6-1 friendly win against Argentina a couple of weeks earlier.
Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera all make thier return to the squad following their injuries as Jose Mourinho sounded calm before the heated City-Utd clash.
“It’s been a good week. I would say a normal week – no midweek match or Champions League for us, so more time to train. But a good normal week I would call it.” said Jose.
