With the commencement of the new season, defending Champions and centurions Manchester City begin their title-defence against a reshuffled and reorganised Arsenal side under their new boss Unai Emery at the Emirates later on Sunday night. It will be the first of the two tricky opening fixtures for the Emery-led side, who go on to meet Chelsea next weekend. With new signings Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi into the side, Arsenal will look to earn all three points at home against the champions before travelling to the Stamford Bridge. City’s newest Algerian recruit Riyad Mahrez will be under scrutiny too following his £60m move from Leicester City in the summer.

Arsenal:
Emery looked confident in the press conference before his first match of the season stating they wanted to get off to a good start at the beginning of the season.
“We are excited. We have a lot of ambition to start [well] on Sunday against the last winners of the Premier League. Also, I think that it’s a big and great match that we can play to start this season.”
Speaking on injuries, Emery confirmed that both Koscielny and Kolasinac are out for the time being while the return of Monreal into the side was a bright sign.
We have Koscielny out with a long injury and then also Kolasinac has a long injury. Today, Nacho Monreal began to train with the team. As well, Danny Welbeck has come in this week but on Sunday it will be early to start playing him. The other players are OK and we are working on the possibility to work with another player, who has experience in this [left-back] position.
Man City:
Pep Guardiola seemed happy with the arrival of Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne last week and confirmed that the two are in contention to feature against Arsenal. Commenting on how he expects the season to pan out, the ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss stated that he was very happy with the squad and was looking forward to it.
“I like my job and to be with these players,” Pep explained to the media. “Winning is best motivation for me.
“Last season we were so happy so why not try it again? “The target is to try to win and then in April or May next year we will see. If we are good and consistent like last season then we have a good chance.”
With the return of de Bruyne and Sterling, Pep pretty much has his full squad to choose from, barring Danilo who is out with an ankle injury.
